We Thank Thee!
" For glowing autumn's brimming yield, "
The rich returns of wood and field,
For well-filled bins and orchard gold —
Earth's harvest boons are manifold.
For these we thank Thee, Lord of all;
No other Name today we call.
Turn Thou our hearts from thoughts of greed
As from Thy kindly hand we feed.
For this we thank Thee — autumn's gain;
But may we not those gifts disdain
The striving centuries have brought:
The gift of freedom, conflict-bought;
The faith in God our fathers passed
To us in turn. May we hold fast
To all these treasures of our sires;
May we not scorn their altar-fires!
We thank Thee: Thou hast brought us good
From hill and prairie, field and wood.
We thank Thee: Teach us how to pray
" Our Father " on this festal day.
