Classic Poem

What in the world.
in the spider trees.

& what have I not done for money in my time.

why is the boot wearing a wig.
why in the world & how.

is it a black boot a black wig.
it is & the scalp black as the long-winded hair.

it figures.

but suppose both were not black but blue.
or mauve or mulberry or polyunsaturated red mercy.
mom o' golly a red wig is that possible.
ah what is not.
ah.
the final figures figure fugally.

I smell smoke it is the silk bush yonder or is it.
is it one of the daughters of language.
her breast that burns or burning buttocks socketed.

the road curves dips why.
under today's rainbow curve the road avoids going into the ocean how.
& the world it curves dips avoids to what precise degree what.

to what degree then do deep knee bends follow suite.
is it therefore a question only of up & down.
or of side to side as when combing hair lying down caught in a jack-jawed trap.

scar tissue figures the fish in the fishbowl figures I figure it figures.
what in the spider trees the dog grass the egg-blue sky.
& what too of the blood the green the cloud of no color the mother of rust.

& finally what of it if it figures.
