Sung before an Echo
When the stream o' the river do bound
All in foam over green stwonen blocks,
Shall we zay that the murmuren sound
Is the sound o' the stream or the rocks—
O' the rocks, or the stream, or the two?
Echo —the rocks?
Echo —the two?

When the zunlight do plaÿ off an' on
Over water a-dazzlen the zight,
Shall we zay that the bow-necked swan
Is in gleams o' the pool or the light—
O' the light, or the pool, or the two?
Echo —the light?
Echo —the two?

When the black-spotted beän-bloom is out,
In our talk ov the smell, do we meän
That the sweetness a-flowen about
Is the smell o' the wind or the beän—
O' the beän, or the wind, or the two?
Echo —the beän?
Echo —the two?

When my heart is a-touch'd wi' the zight
O' the house that my love is below,
Shall I teäke it that all my delight
I alone to Jeäne Hindley do owe—
Or the house wi' the Hindleys all out?

When the heart do leäp up at the zight
O' the dwellen o' zome belov'd feäce,
Shall we teäke it that all our delight
Is the charm o' the feäce or the pleäce?

O' the feäce, as the charm vrom a gleam,
Or a sheäpe where noo sheäpe is a-vound,
In the eye-blinded hour ov a dream
In a sleep that is deaf to all sound,
In a sleep Echo —all sound
