Where's one who loyalty with me, Of generous intent, shall practise
Where's one who loyalty with me, Of generous intent, shall practise
Who somewhat, whiles, of kindliness With me, the indigent, shall practise?
First to my heart, with harp and reed, News shall he bring of the Beloved;
Then, with a cup of wine, the wight Our friendship to cement shall practise.
The charmer who hath rent my soul Nor will my heart's desire accomplish,
Behoveth not despair of her; Maybe, she yet relent shall practise.
Quoth I to her, " My whole life long, In that thy browlock I've been tangled: "
And she, " 'Tis my behest that it With thee entanglement shall practise. "
The crabbed wool-wearer ne'er knew Love's scent: of its intoxication
Bespeak him thou, of continence So he relinquishment shall practise.
A loveling such as she uneath For beggars such as I to win is;
What Sultan with the market-sot His privy merriment shall practise?
Small matter 'tis if from those locks, That twist and turn, unright I suffer:
No heed of bond or fetter he, On night-walking who's bent, shall practise.
The hosts of grief are countless grown: I crave of Fortune aid; it may be
That Fekhreddin Abdussemed For me some solacement shall practise.
Hafiz, attempt thou not her eye, Fulfilled with witch'ries; else her browlocks,
Night-coloured, store of knavish tricks, For thine ensorcelment, shall practise.
