Will You Hear Muset's "Muse"?

Will you hear Muset's " Muse " ? 'Twas the morning of a fête in May in a green and flowering orchard at the break of day when every bird sings with great joy, and I went to make a garland in the greenwood. I made it fair and quaint and neat and full of flowers. A lady, charming and most fair, a comely maid, a " laughing mouth," called to me: " Come hither, play your viol ... your " Muse" singing so prettily. "
I went to her in the meadow with the viol and the bow and I sang her the " muset " with great love. " I have set my heart on so good a heart with love. " And when I saw her golden head and her colour and her neat body so amorous and so well attired, my heart leapt up for this maiden; and I remember my joy often. She wore a gown of glittering cloth of Spain. Sweet God! how much I love her with a loyal heart!
When I had played my viol before her to gain her love and goodwill, she rewarded me well (thanks be to her!) with a kiss at my desire. God! how much I love it! And something else she gave me as her lover which I had greatly desired: now 'tis paid! More do I rejoice than ever I was wont, since she is mine whom I so much desire; I will take of her neither gift nor money; for nothing that I see would I leave her; I would rather die.
Thus did Colin Muset " muse " and sang as was fitting for the fair lady with the coloured cheek and the pretty heart. Many a good morsel did she serve him and good wine that he liked, I promise you. Thus his life has brought him here. Still he makes love, singing many a song, he takes pains with his clothes since he would serve Love, he takes great joy in the orchard where he made love, he keeps himself neat, and he calls for good wine all at his leisure.
