The Wish on a Wedding Day Morning

This day unites a good and virtuous pair,
And friendship wakes to antedate the bliss,
To lift to heaven the ardent humble prayer —
That every day may be as blest as this.

No aid from Hebes fancied magic form
From Sculpterd venus or the greecian dame
Nor yet the Muses who have power to charm
I ask to grace or dignify my theme
For loveliness her self inspires the lay
And modesty enlightens every grace
Judgement and Sentiment their force display
And animate each feature of the face
Nature herself with all her humid glow —
Of varied tints, shall emulate to twine
The nuptial wreath to grace fair Delias brow
And in the gratulating Concert Join
Come then sweet warblers Consecrate the day
Let dulcet notes resound thro every grove
With carols sweet in plumage bright and gay
Come hail the hour that smiles on mutual love

O'er them may hymen wave his purple wing
And light his torch at friendships purest fire
Teach them the Secret from his stores to bring
The charm to touch the heart with chaste desire
On them may all the powers of love bestow
The happy art each Comfort to refine
May health each beauty vivify anew
And Snatch the victims from the hand of time

May smiles and sweetness sense and prudence Join
Each fleeting pleasure daily to restore
May wit and elegance their powers Combine
And charm when youth and beauty are no more
