YET STILL IT SPEAKS

I thought I had forgotten that verse I wrote
Many years ago, a different place and time
But I can hear the words in that crumpled note

I say verse, and yet the words never did rhyme
If only I could banish it from my brain
Yet any permanent loss would be a crime

No famous poem,  no place among antiques
The words are really old now, yet still it speaks
Yet if shared I fear the havoc that it wreaks

I can’t describe the target listener it seeks
Just a few words from the heart, yet still it speaks
