At Takadachi in Oshu:
Summer grass: where the warriors used to dream

War ships, cold tides,
ancient troops of clouds,
crows like crazy dots of ink
splashed against the dying sun:
here, on the west bank of the Yangtze,
at Ju-hsü entrenchment,
as the spring waters start to rise
I say farewell to you.

Eastern neighbor, western neighbor:
swallows flying.
Tomorrow or the next day,
spring will be gone.
Much sadness, much illness,
saying goodbye:
no wine, no money,
pawning my clothes!

All we have is God's, and yet
Caesar challenges a debt,
Nor hath God a thinner share,
What ever Caesar's payments are;
All is God's; and yet 'tis true
All wee have is Caesar's too;
All is Caesar's; and what ods
So long as Caesar's self is Gods?

Thou spak'st the word (thy word's a Law)
Thou spak'st and streight the blind man saw.

To speake and make the blind man see,
Was never man Lord spake like Thee.

To speake thus, was to speake (say I)
Not to his Eare, but to his Eye.

Christ bids the dumbe tongue speake, it speakes; the sound
Hee charges to be quiet, it runs round:
If in the first he us'd his fingers Touch,
His hands whole strength here, could not be too much.

26. And he said, So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed into the ground;
27. And should sleep, and rise night and day, and the seed should spring and grow up, he knoweth not how.
28. For the earth bringeth forth fruit of herself; first the blade, then the ear, after that the full corn in the ear.
29. But when the fruit is brought forth, immediately he putteth in the sickle, because the harvest is come.
30. And he said, Whereunto shall we liken the kingdom of God? or with what comparison shall we compare it?

All Hybla's honey, all that sweetnesse can
Flowes in thy Song (o faire, o dying Swan!)
Yet is the joy I take in't small or none;
It is too sweet to be a long-liv'd one.

As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.
If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.
These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.
This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.
Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.

I INTENDED an ode,
