Be still, beating heart

I remember the day clearly,
There was a cool breeze
blowing in from a restive sea.

I was sitting on a bench
The sun was setting
The sky, awashed with
a myriad brilliant hues.

She came over and sat next to me
Her long flowing hair
playing with the whimsical wind,
her skin soft as silk
her wheatish complexion
glowing with the hues of twilight.

She turned her head toward me
and flashed a pearly smile.
My heart sank
I forgot to breathe,
It was a sight to behold
A sight to cherish
A sight to weave dreams around.

I gathered my wits
and croaked a hello.

A tidal wave of craving rose
carrying my heart toward the shore…
When suddenly she got up,
turned around and walked away.

My world came crashing down
and scattered the debris
all over the sandy shoreline.
