A Feather for My Cap

Seagull flying from the sea,
Drop a feather here for me!
Drop it down into my lap—
I need a feather for my cap!

My satin gown's as white as milk,
My stockings are the finest silk,
My shoes are made of Spanish leather,
But oh! my cap! it lacks a feather!

My girdle is of precious gold,
A bouquet in my hands I hold
Of wild rose buds and lucky heather—
But oh! my cap! it lacks a feather!

What use a gown of satin fine?
What use a grand bouquet—like mine?
What use are shoes of Spanish leather
If caps, or hats, do lack a feather?
