On the Game of Commerce

OCCASIONED BY THE AUTHOR'S GIVING A YOUNG LADY THE AGE OF
HEARTS, WHICH ENABLED HER TO WIN THE POOL .

I N commerce most writers agree,
That exchange is the life of all trade —
A heart you have taken from me,
But I fear no exchange has been made!

Then if, my dear girl, you would play
By the rules of fair commerce alone;
Keep the heart you have taken away,
And let me, in exchange, have your own.
