The Grasshopper's Song

A scraping sound: The grasshopper
In the field does purr and whir-r-r.

“Come forth, grasshoppers, come to dance,
And chant to God your lovely chants.

“Let all who can, be heard and seen
With pirouette and tambourine.

“For none shall hide where grass is deep,
But if you've legs, arise and leap!

“All that are here, respond, proclaim:
Blessed is He and blessed His name!

“Blessed be God who for our sake
This happy summertime did make.

“A plenteous feast in field and fen,
Enough for all.—Amen, amen!”
