On a Great Statesman, who Seldom Spoke, and then Ambiguously

The Great Wise Men, who God's Vicegerents are,
Like Him, to Men mysterious should appear;
Rarely be seen, and never understood,
To govern, and be worship'd by the Croud.
For most Men that there's more in Things believe,
Which they least meet with, and thy less conceive.
The God, we worship, would small Rev'rence find,
Would he once grow familiar to Mankind.
