Her Sun Is Gone Down While It Was Yet Day

A face that he had ever loved,
A sudden mist of tears,
A last farewell to all he knew,
And his bright boyish years;
He watched the sun set o'er the hill
With sudden heartfelt pain,
He thought of all he'd never see,
Ah, nevermore again on earth,
Ah, nevermore again!

The thunder of the mighty guns,
A furrowed field of France,
The heart-leap of adventure high,
The bayonets swift advance;
All man can do, that has he done,
All man can give, has given,
The sunset red doth kiss his brow,
A path of light to Heaven's gate,
A path of light to Heaven!
