Inspiration

I sought her in deep gullies, where
Peace tiptoed by the hidden stream,
And dreaming wild flowers filled the air
With their sweet dream:

I sought her in the sunset sky,
And the great stars that guard the night,
And in the bridal ecstasy
Of dawn's delight:

I sought her in the passionate Sea
— Fierce white arms clasped my heart to rest,
And gave me immortality
Dying upon her breast.
