Lines Spoken by a Young Lady on the Birth-Day of Her School-Mistress

SPOKEN BY A YOUNG LADY ON THE BIRTH-DAY OF HER SCHOOL-MISTRESS .

WRITTEN AT THE REQUEST OF A FRIEND .

O N this glad day may ev'ry joy attend
My kind instructor, and my early friend!
Whate'er of mental worth in life is mine,
My heart must own the merit all is thine;
Whose lessons, drawn from piety and truth,
Will cheer my age as they have charm'd my youth;
And, as a mirror plac'd before my eyes,
Reflect no objects but the good and wise.
