A Song

( " Wie die Sonne sinkt am Abend. " )

As at eve the sunlight dying
Wrapt in radiance sinks from sight,
As the Spring, the Autumn flying,
Still seems fragrant in her flight;
As our childhood's shining spirit
In Time's chariot whirls away;
As with unfulfilled wishes
Life steals past us day by day;
Thus thou fleddest, radiant darling
Of the Springtime's sunny breath,
And Hafiz alone encounters
Twilight, Autumn, Age and Death.
