Through screens we glimpse the world at play,
While we live in darkness, vacation miles away.
Travelers visit foreign lands,
Yet here we are with books in our hands.
They splash in the waves, dance in the breeze,
And we’re confined to our desks, chasing degrees.
The sun beams down, a golden glow,
But curtains stay drawn over the window.
Back in the days when skies seemed blue,
We dreamed of adventure, me and you.
Chasing butterflies, making flower chains,
Were all that made us happy in days without pain.
At another time, we’d be the ones splashing in the waves,
Dancing in the breeze, exploring hidden caves.
The sun would beam down, warm like an embrace,
Our laughs would be swallowed by the wind that blew in my face.
But for now, I suppose we’ll have to stay
In our confines, hidden away
From the rest of the world, enjoying their days,
Frolicking in the sun, ever so gay.
Just for now.
Until I finish my homework.
