THE END OF FEELINGS
After so many years, it subsides
That rush of anger and tension
Doubt grows with its dirty face
As it pushes up to take its place
And wouldn’t forget to mention
All is washed away with the tides
That neutral silence dominates
Sweeping aside strong opinions
An emptiness is the new norm
As it assumes its subtlest form
And is proud of its dominions
Only the low hum resonates
All life experience is coalesced
Into a heavy blob of liquid lead
Indistinct identity of past events
Stripped of their accoutrements
Yet still maintains its gentle tread
As it waves goodbye to the rest
This vacuum, in an empty void
Painted thick black, like bitumen
Yet there’s some grit remaining
Even though the time is waning
And unsure that I’m still human
Past the point of being annoyed
I hear a faint diminished chord
It’s the end of feelings, I suspect
Of all those emotions preserved
Perhaps only a few are deserved
Of the merest thread of respect
Yet no desire to fall on my sword
