I was happy, free and quite affable
With what little I had, comfortable,
Until I became woefully aware
of the rich, famous and rare
who had the comforts many…
So I was bitten by envy.
The sun shone bright every day
But I was in the throes of dismay,
The flowers bloomed and beamed
to enjoy and be grateful it seemed,
Yet I was entrapped by jealousy
For, Oh, I was green with envy.
Not until I gave up on my greed
From jealousy myself freed,
Accept my place in God’s grace
My failings and faults to face,
From the grips of envy was I released,
With the fate of my life I was pleased.
