I have always been afraid of heights

because of the potential fall.

Just imagining my feet stopped on an edge several feet high,

makes my stomach

                                 drop.

And when I look at you,

I feel the familiar rise of my heart in my throat

like I can see a ledge in sight.

The closer I get

                   the more my legs shake and
   
                                                             my breath catches.

And it isn’t until I look into your eyes

          I realize

it’s because I have
                                 fallen

and I have been
                            falling

       for a longtime

with the ground nowhere in sight.
