The grandfather clock in the hall stands still
It stopped the day she died
He couldn't miss her any more
Not even if he tried

Everyone's gone and he sits alone
Surrounded by mountains of food
Brought in by friends and family
But he's not in an eating mood

His mind goes back many years ago
And they were younger then
He only wanted her but knew
She could have had her pick of men

Why she chose him he'll never guess
She was such a beauty then
He just knew if he could repeat it
He'd do it all over again

She was his princess, that he knew
No one else could love him so
She was his life, his love, his all
Oh, why did she have to go?

In sickness and in health they vowed
In good times and in bad
He never dreamed this day would come
And yet, it surely had

Much quicker than he thought it would
He shed a little tear
He held her picture in his hand
It helped to feel her near

It was almost like he could see her
And he kissed her wrinkled cheek
He held her close and whispered "Dear,
you're sweeter than a peach."

He'd never loved another and his love for her was true
But she had gone away, now what was he to do?
Again, he closed his eyes and imaged she was there
He breathed a final breath as a breeze blew through his hair.

It was his turn to go; time had turned the page
His essence drifted down the lane
She was waiting there, her hand outstretched
And they were together again.
