On assignment from film class
I flailed around the high school halls
calling out mañana, mañana
because I took French
& someone once told me it meant marijuana
 
Giddy with newfound confidence
behind the viewfinder
I approached near strangers
& asked them to be honest—
 
Tell me what you think about
just moments
before falling asleep
