He is discussed globally,
On a daily basis,
Minimally and on a large scale,
Gigantic media rambles on.
He is dreaded by all,
Plotted against by the wealthy,
Targeted by the poor.
But year in, year out,
The coup is aborted,
And poverty looms large,
Wantonly threatening, taunting, annihilating.
Poverty eradication programmes,
Eradication campaigns and initiatives,
Only strengthen him;
He throws his head backwards,
Hearty laughter resounding over hills and plains.
Frantic bullets are but plastic balls,
Tickling his roundish pot belly,
Advancing towards the army;
He crushes thousands daily.
Thus his hunger satiated momentarily,
One foot ravishes a hundred,
His breath a sickening menace,
Sending victims to early grave.
The undaunting cruelty is confident,
His Achilles' heel well guarded,
Is known only by the unheard few;
The voices when heard say,
Free basic education,
Conducive environment for creative minds,
Linguistically thrashed basic amenities,
Encouraging small scale industry multiplicity,
Then archers of Poverty's Achilles' heel emerge.
