We’re making love in the afternoon
to the rumble of thunder
and rat-a-tat-tat
of rain. School pickup
is still an hour away,
somewhere beyond the storm.
Outside a dog barks,
branches scrape the tin roof.
Inside it’s warm
and we are no longer
fifteen years wed, but teens
giggling beneath sheets,
as the world spins
obliviously by.
