I often wondered about the age of Grendel at the time of his death
could it be he was just a baby as he took his last breath?,
He may have just been a young wild and hungry thing
when killed by the Geat of which people still sing
What a different tone the story would tell
if Grendel was merely a babe when he fell
Near Hrothgar's hall died a thing deadly and wild
that just so happened to be only a child.
