7th Weekly Poetry Contest winner: "Urania"

by Eurydamas

I

Era chiamata
"Urania"
dagli dei!

E io ...

… io ero
La sua Luna!

Lei era me—
ed io ...
ero lei,

… in un'altra
vita,

in un'altra era.

II

Alla sua nascita
Cantarono
inni sacri

Lodi!

riecheggiarono
In quel giorno

Nei cuori
Di tutti
i saggi—

Dolcemente
sussurravano

"Urania!"

III

La sua
bellezza:
suprema—

Raggiante!

Tuttavia le Parche
Gelose

Cloto
Lachesi
Atropo

Tagliarono
Il filo d'oro

Della mia Urania!

IV

Lei morì
In gioventù
Pallida, bella

Urania!

Me la
rubarono

la posero a
riposare alle
Porte Di Ishtar

E l'oscurità
Cadde sopra

La Terra.

*Translation

I

She was called
"Ourania"
by the Gods!

and I...

...I was
Her Moon!

still she was
me and I
her,

...in another
Lifetime,

Ages hence…

II

At her birth
They sang hymns
of praise!

Anthems

that echo
to this very day

On the hearts
of all the
Wise—

Softly
whispering…

"Ourania!"

III

Her beauty
was beyond
measure—

Radient!

Yet the fates
grew jealous;

Clotho
Lachesis
Atropos

cutting short
the golden cord

of my Ourania

IV

She died
fair of face;
in youth

Ourania!

they stole
Her away—

laying her
to rest at the
Gates of Ishtar

and darkness
fell upon

the land
