464th Weekly Poetry Contest honorable mention: Slow-Burn

by Kace Abella

I didn't fall in love with you overnight.
It was far from fast like a shooting star.
It's slow like flames dancing a quiet tune,
Just like fire keeping the night warm and bright,
My heart flickered with the fire that is you.

434th Weekly Poetry Contest honorable mention: Canine Murder

Somewhere on the fringes of the city,
    two canines snarl and snap.
    Soon one of them will nap
forever. The small gathering shows no pity.

The Breed is hefty (over thirty pounds),
    ears semi-prick or rose.
    When butted in the nose
or kicked, the beast will make ferocious sounds.

428th Weekly Poetry Contest honorable mention: you are an infinite soul

long lost sea, you think of the ocean
a lot
but never swim;

your head is never under water and
your feet just touch
the waves.

your fingers glide,
these atoms that stick together
on your skin;

you ponder the way the surface
creases like
tissue paper,
full to bursting...

today, your body is
brand new,
just as you were born and
always have been.
